My First Tattoo!

I did something last week that was a big thing for me that I have yet to write about!  I can't believe I didn't write about it as soon as it happened.  I guess I was just too excited about it that I didn't think about writing.

I have been talking for two years at least about getting a tattoo related to Jack White but I have never been able to get one because of surgeries.  There are hardly any areas on my body right now that I can get a tattoo because I'm still in the process of surgeries, scars healing and then I never know where they will take for donor sites and then of course there's IV sites to think about so there's really no place on my body right now with all that going on that I can go ahead with a tattoo.  But I knew of one place that would not be a problem and I've been thinking about it for at least two years, like I said.  And it's the tattoo of the roman numeral III on my ring finger.  That would always be a safe place while I'm in the middle of my reconstruction surgeries.  And I loved the idea of it.

So my best friend, Corrie, came over last week for about two days and on the first day we got to talking about tattoos cause she had just gotten a new one I hadn't seen yet so it got us to talking and we thought, what's the harm in just going in to get a quote?  So I got dressed real fast and out the door we went.  The first tattoo place we went to was already closed down so we turned around and went to another place that used to do tattoos but turns out, no longer.  Only one place was left and I'd never really heard anything about it.  But we walked inside and it wasn't very busy and very clean.  I told them what I wanted and asked how much.  There was a minimum so that's what it was going to be, no more and I looked at Corrie, turned back to the girl and said, "let's do it then."  And I signed a paper and went into the back, put my hand up, explained the tattoo some more and got ready for my first tattoo.

And it turned out perfect.  He did it just how I imagined it.  And despite what he said about that area being a very sensitive area to get a tattoo, it really didn't phase me one bit.  I've been through so much worse that this was nothing compared to the pain I've been in before with my burn injury.

So the roman numeral III relates to Jack in many ways.  First of all, the number 3 is an obsession of his.  He believes so much in this world revolves around the number 3, which he first discovered when he was reupholstering furniture before his music career took off.  He also signs his name Jack White III - just without the top and bottom bars.  And then also it's part of his new personal Jack White logo, just three bars without the top and bottom cross bars.  So that's what it means to him, and because it means so much to him and is so personal to him, I knew that's what I had to do.  It was simple, bold, and the best I could do right now with my surgeries causing conflict as to where I could put a tattoo before my surgeries were done, which I have no idea when that will be.  But I love it.  And it was even more special cause I got my first tattoo with my best friend in the whole world.  Just go and get a quote...who was I kidding?  There was no way I'd walk out of that tattoo shop without a tattoo once I walked in.  So now I have a little bit of Jack White permanently inked on me and I'm super happy with it.

For you Jack!

I, too, am a burn victim that suffered 3rd degree burns to 60% of my body 5 years ago. I am looking to get a tattoo soon to reflect the struggle and triumph of surviving and persevering even after these injuries. Do you have any suggestions?
