The Person Behind the Blog

Here are a couple more pictures for you to see. This is me. The person behind the words of this blog.

For a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that you have faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even through refined by fire - may be proved genuine, and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

as i said yesterday...more beautiful every day! it seems you take such bold, brave steps...daily. what i forgot to mention yesterday is that your fight is sacred also. god isn't afraid of your rage on your bad days and he's never more sure of your beauty than now!

deeply,
rebecca

Your scripture reminded me of an experience I had last weekend while on a John Day geology field trip with a group of 20 college students from Lewis & Clark College.

These were "privileged" young people. They came from upper economic backgrounds, were well traveled, possessed excellent physical health due to eating properly and exercise, and were lacking in very little. Except for one thing. FAITH!

Both nights as various students gathered around our camp fire the subjects of God, Jesus, and religion kept coming up. Many of these students, who had no lack in their lives, were searching for spiritual truth. In spite of their prosperity they felt something was lacking. This made them hang on to my every word as I shared the amazing miracles God worked in my life during the last few years. As they listened intently several asked questions about my personal relationship with God. How did I know God exists? What if they doubt the existence of a personal God who is interested in their lives? GREAT questions. I was thrilled to share in such an open and honest dialog.

These college kids are a perfect example of recognizing the "God vacuum" in each and every one of us. We all want to believe there is a personal God who cares about us. We all want to believe there is a better existence after we die. Faith is indeed better then gold, as the scripture in I Peter says. Nothing else, not even all the wealth in the world, can provide the kind of peace faith in God can. And these kids recognized this.

What good is life if there isn't a loving God who gives our life meaning? I had a wonderful dialogue with these students, and for two nights in a row we discussed faith in God, and how to find it, and how to "grow" our faith.

You are on the faith journey in a BIG way, Sarah. Be honest with God. Keep going to Him with your doubts and questions. He'll answer you in a real and personal way. This is what I told the college students last weekend, and so I repeat it to YOU. God is holding out His arms to you, Sarah!
